A Christmas Tableaux

The Salvation Army’s soldiers ringing their bells in front of stores and on street corners all across America and, indeed, the entire western world, are as much a part of our traditional Christmas tableaux as the Christmas tree, Santa Claus, the front door wreath, and snowy country scenes enlivened with horse drawn sleighs and seasonal music celebrating family love. The Salvation Army has simply always been a part of this Christmas scene.

The Verde Valley School in Oak Creek, Arizona was founded in 1947 by Hamilton and Barbara Warren after the devastation of the Western European civilization by the horror of World War II. The Harvard educated couple decided it was their mission to bring together students from all over the world to live, work, and study together in a multicultural environment of mutual respect and service to one another and the wider world community. After 72 years, this tiny secondary school continues to foster intercultural understanding and world citizenship, environmental stewardship, the value of physical labor, and service to humanity with a willing spirit.

NEWS: Office of Justice Programs Awards More Than $212 Million To Support Juvenile Justice

Today, the Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs (OJP) announced awards of more than $212 million to support juvenile justice. The awards will enhance state and local juvenile justice systems; provide gang prevention and intervention services; support mentoring and reentry services for youth and families; and help states comply with the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act. OJJDP and the Office for Victims of Crime awarded grants to more than 150 states, local jurisdictions, research and academic institutions, and public and private organizations nationwide.
