As we near the end of the first month of the year, I began thinking about resolutions. I have culled the following resolutions from the case workers I communicate with throughout the year. I used the following selection criteria to compile the list below:
Is the resolution universal? • Is it thoughtful? • Should I adopt it?
Perhaps you will find, as I did, one or two that will help you succeed in 2015.
- Listen more/speak less.
- Offer clients respect rather than sympathy.
- Transform my agency's mission into my passion.
- Resist nothing/accept everything.
- Try to understand supervision rather than grudgingly obey.
- Replace the word "work" with the word "contribution".
- Strive to improve myself rather than everyone else around me.
- Never, ever keep a client waiting.
- Don't preach...teach.
- Become more skilled in the system and use the skill to benefit clients.
- Never judge anyone.
- Every client deserves every effort.
- See every client as a gift.
- Learn to be more careful.
- Notice good intentions.
- Inspire...don't criticize.
- Take more risks.
Usually I have forgotten my New Year's resolutions by the second week in January. For 2015, I have resolved...
