Today I wanted to share with you a short holiday story called…
A Christmas Card
The amazed Mom felt truly blessed
as she and her three children
opened gifts and enjoyed
their Christmas dinner together.
Mom had to leave work one month before Christmas for brain surgery on a non-malignant tumor. As Christmas approached there was no money left, and she was unable to pay the rent. She began calling homeless shelters but was told they were all full. Finally, at 6:30 one evening, a harried caseworker in the middle of the holiday rush happened to take Mom's call and took a minute to listen.
"You have no one to help you?" the caseworker asked.
"We are all alone," Mom answered.
A motel was arranged. The next day, Christmas Eve, the same caseworker came to our motel room and told us that she had made arrangements for our family in an apartment. As she was driving us from the motel to our new apartment, her cell phone rang.
"Is there a family in need of gifts and a prepared turkey dinner?" the man asked.
It seems that he and his mother had a tradition of shopping for a family in need each year on Christmas Eve!
I send you all this Christmas Card as my way of expressing
the respect I have for the work you do.
