A Glance At 2023

Good bye 2023, hello 2024

This blog pauses to look at the world of social services. We do not suppose to educate but only offer a glance at a corner of the vast social services landscape.....

In 2023

  • We looked at the risk of burnout that dedicated case workers run and the youthful enthusiasm that is both their virtue and their vice.
  • We looked into the plight of the homeless, our children in poverty, hungry Americans, and the burgeoning elderly now struggling with their caregiver crisis.
  • We celebrated progress in juvenile justice and tried to understand the struggle of those diagnosed on the Asperges spectrum.
  • We took hats off to Kristi House and St. Mary's Food Bank.
  • Together we saw Hospice for what it really is - a miracle of human compassion and insight.
  • We championed the availability of NARCAN to save the lives of millions trapped in prescription drug induced heroin addiction.
  • We measured the immeasurable positive impact of the nonprofit sector on our society as a whole.
  • We looked more closely at the professional challenges of the social work profession.
  • We glanced at the central role of new technologies in the case worker's life.

2023 was a year for social work to find its footing after the dramatic disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was also a year that we took stock of traditional care protocols and how they fit the current needs of our marginalized population.

In 2024

Next year we will focus our lens on how the social services sector responds to the political, economic, and social changes on the horizon.

  • Recruiting a new generation into service professions.
  • Adapting to new technologies.
  • New non-profit fundraising models.
  • Career paths for non-profit management.
  • Support for the growing homeless population.
  • Caring for the millions of newly minted seniors.
  • Medicare contribution to the nursing home population.
  • More humane immigrant management.
  • Stamping out hunger in the lower middle class.
  • Retraining the labor pool in new technologies.
  • Continued juvenile justice reform state by state.
  • Recruiting an army of case workers into Child Protective Services.
  • Recognizing individual stand-out nonprofits.
  • Inspiring stories of exceptional social workers.

Only a Glance

Global Vision Technologies hopes this blog enlightens the entire landscape of the social services/non-profit world by shining light into nooks and crannies week after week.

Only glancing at the details, we hope to encourage our clientele, both present and future, to keep their eye on the big picture while we work diligently to design technology that will make their efforts more productive and pleasant.

We also hope, in our way, to inspire our readers to continue their heroic efforts on behalf of our marginalized minorities. Case work is not easy and has both a positive as well as negative psychic impact on practitioners. We, and the rest of the social service community, understand this struggle and, in 2024, want to do all we can to help.
