On September 30th, President Obama proclaimed October 2016 to be National Youth Justice Awareness Month. October 2016 is dedicated to prevention efforts that help to keep youth from entering juvenile and criminal justice systems. The observation also encourages communities to promote and participate in youth activities and programs to help youth reach their greatest expectations and maximize their talents.
During this proclamation, the President cited the September 2014 initiative, Smart on Juvenile Justice, an initiative that supports three grant programs to promote juvenile justice reforms in Georgia, Hawaii and Kentucky. The OJJDP reports that in Georgia, after one year of these efforts, it has reduced the number of its youth in confinement by 62 percent.
Hearing this proclamation makes me proud of the work we do here at GVT. By providing FAMCare, a multifaceted case management system (including juvenile justice platform) we can help our customers, many non-profits that struggle every day to help their community youth thrive, provide better care and services to their clients. FAMCare allows them to easily do their job to promote and provide prevention programs such as counseling, substance abuse treatment, life skills training, and job training programs, etc. for their community youth. All of these programs are an effort to improve outcomes for those youth and help those same children fulfill their greatest potential.
